Frequently Asked Questions
Does Compalight require internet?
No. Compalight is fully offline. All text editing, OCR, speech recognition, and exports happen on your device. No data is transmitted to the cloud.
Does Compalight work on iPad?
Yes. Compalight runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 26 or later). The three-tab layout adapts automatically to the larger screen.
Is there a text length limit?
Yes. Each Compalight session accepts up to 15,000 characters. For longer texts, you can work across multiple sessions.
How does word-level diff work?
Lock your original text in the Original tab. Edit freely in the editor. The Changes tab shows every modification using color-coding: blue for additions, red for deletions, green for text you moved to a different location.
Can I OCR text from a photo?
Yes. Use the Camera icon to photograph a document or select an image from your photo library. Compalight runs OCR locally on your device using Apple's on-device Vision framework. You can clean up common OCR errors automatically.
How accurate is the OCR?
OCR accuracy depends on image quality, font, and text clarity. Compalight uses Apple's on-device Vision framework. Handwritten text and low-resolution images may have lower accuracy. Always review OCR results before using them.
Can I dictate text?
Yes. Use the microphone icon to dictate text or additional instructions. Speech recognition is handled on-device by Apple's Speech framework. No audio is transmitted.
What export formats are supported?
Compalight exports as plain text, Word (.docx) with full redline markup, or PDF. You can also copy edited text directly to the clipboard.
How do I send my redline to someone else?
Export as Word (.docx), PDF, or plain text via the Export menu, then use the iOS share sheet to send via email, messaging, AirDrop, or any other sharing option.
Can I edit the Original after locking?
Yes. Tap the small lock badge next to the tab bar to unlock the Original. Edit it, then re-lock — your in-progress Output is automatically restored after re-locking. The "New" button fully resets everything if you want to start over.
Can Compalight run in a different language than my iPhone?
Yes. Change the app language under Settings → Language. Compalight runs independently of your device language, so you can use it in Japanese on an English iPhone, for example.
Does Compalight use AI?
No. Compalight uses no AI models and makes no cloud calls. The only intelligent features are Apple's on-device Vision framework (for OCR) and Apple's on-device Speech framework (for dictation). Both run locally on your device.
Does Compalight collect any data?
No. Compalight collects no personal data. All your text, edits, and changes remain entirely on your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.
